The History
| The hotel was built in 1870 upon a request by ALfred Nobel, the famous Swedish chemist who invented dynamite. This was an ingenious discovery that was useful for building numerous extremely useful works but, to the intense disheartenment of Nobel, was also used to improve various types of war weapons. In an attempt to reedem his image he exploited Hotel Belsoggiorno, which had always carried this name, to testify the type of the guests that could be found in this environment. It also served to host the coachmen who drove the carriages of the guests that look part in the numerous parties given by the Swedish chemist at his enormous property in an attempt to alleviate his sadness. It immediately distinguished itself for its wonderful position and, as it was not conceived as a profit making concern its service and its cuisine made it matchless in comparison to all the other hotels in the area. This was so to such an extent, that some coachmen did'nt even ask their master to pay them when visiting the Riviera of Flowers, in order to be able to stay at the now famous Hotel Belsoggiorno. Alfred Nobel died in Sanremo on December 10th 1896 and when his will was opened it was discovered that the engineer has established that the income of his immense fortune was to be devolved to financing five prizes, which were soon to become the most important in the world. The hotel was sold according to the instructions in the will, but with the clause that still exists today: that it would always be called Hotel Belsoggiorno. |
